A Dutch brass tobacco box, ca. 1757, with a hinged lid engraved with perpetual almanac and lunar calendar flanked by crude portraits of Pope Gregory XIII and Julius Caecar and the dates and the introduction of Julian Gregorian calendars. The base engraving with table for the calculation of the speed ship. Second box depicts a series of engraved charming farming scenes. The boxes measure approx. 1-1/8" x 1-3/4" x 6-3/8" and 1" x 3-1/2" x 6" respectively. 300/500 back to catalog |
