Ruzicka was born in Bohemia, but his parents emigrated to America when he was very young. He began his artistic carreer at age 14 when he was apprenticed to a Chicago printing firm, and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago at night. As his skills grew, so did his reputation as a fine printmaker and graphic designer, participating in exhibitions such as the Societe de la Gravure sur Bois Originale at the Louvre in 1912. The Print Club commissioned Ruzicka to execute a cityscape which were his favorite subjects. This rare print is the result.
