78. Nikolai Ovchinnikov (Russian, 1918-2004)

Nikolai Vasilyevich Ovchinnikov was born October 14th, 1918 in Mizhuli village, Mariinsko-Posadski region of Russia. Education: 1934-1937 Art-engraving school, Alatyrsk, Russia; 1939 and 1945-1951 The I.E. Repin State Academy of Arts Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) his studies were interrupted by his army service in WWII; 1951-1954 Post-graduate study with A.M. Gerasimov; 1971 The University of Eger, Hungary. Ovchinnikov was very active and successful throughout his carreer. He held solo exhibitions in the States, Japan, and Europe, as well as all over the USSR, and was awarded numerous prestigious awards and prizes for his works. Artworks of Nikolai Ovchinnikov are part of many museum collections worldwide: Europe, Russia (The State Tretyakov Gallery, and many others) and in the USA (Springville Museum of Art, Springville, Utah, forty paintings in various genres). His works sold at various auction houses including Christie's London, Sloans & Kenyon, Chevy Chase Maryland, the USA, Garrett O'Connor, Wicklow, Ireland, Glerum, Amsterdam.
