An African Landscape. Watercolor on pebbleboard, signed and inscribed in the lower right "To Shep and Opal...Paul B. Travis...1955), 18-3/4" x 26-1/4", framed in a light wood frame, overall size 25" x 32-1/2". This fluid and colorful scene is a fine example of the artist's preoccupation with Africa. Please note the man with a pith helmet in the vegetation at the far right, and the menacing alligator cruising for prey in the pond. There is a framer's label on the back of the remaining dust cover from a gallery in Colorado, indicating that the painting has done some travelling of its own before returning here to Cleveland.

The sight size of the watercolor is approx. 6-3/4" x 10-1/8", and with framing overall the size is approx. 13" x 16-1/2".

A lot of three framed charcoal drawings of Classical statues, all matted and framed alike with black mats and bright red frames, the first titled "D'apres le relief - Alexandre monument -", sight size approx. 19-1/4" x 15-1/2", the second titled "Venus d'Arles" dated 1871, sight size approx. 19-1/4" x 15-1/2", and the last titled "Caraca", sight size approx. 19-1/4" x 15-1/2", each measures approx. 28-3/4" x 21". These beautifully rendered drawings are the type of piece traditionally done by fine arts students. The artists would draw classical statues from "life" in order to learn how to render depicting a three-dimensional object.

A lot of three unframed watercolors, Danish School, possibly by Erling Carl Wilhelm Eckersberg, all watercolors on board, each signed in the image at the lower left corner and titled in pencil below the lower edge of the image. The paintings are as follows: "Athens...The Tower of the Winds", image 12-1/2" x 9-1/2", "Athens...Temple of Jupiter", image 12-1/4" x 9-1/2", and "The Ruins of the Temple", image 11-1/4" x 9-1/4". Each board measures 18" x 13-1/2".
