Oil on board, initialed in red "C.E.W." and dated '89 in the lower left, framed in a gilt frame with leaf ornaments at the corners, sight size approx. 9-1/4" x 11-1/4", with frame overall approx. 14-1/2" x 16-1/2". A naively painted scene with a lugubrious winter sky over the distant mountains. A rosy glow surrounds the church steeple. A small group of figures with a sled and a dog are shown in the churchyard.

Oil on wood board, initialed and dated '94 in the lower right corner, initialed also in the lower left corner, (F.H. ?) framed in a black painted frame, board size approx. 7-1/2" x 9-1/2", with framing overall approx. 9-1/4" x 11-1/8". An unusual scene, naively painted en grisaille, with a woven fence at the right covered in show, bars and two platforms over the path in the center and a snow-covered embankment at the left. Barren trees occupy the distance.

"Elegantes Dans Un Parc". Oil on canvas (oval) mounted down onto board, signed in the lower right, framed in the original ornate gilt frame with a spandrel, picture size approx. 17" x 20-3/4", with framing overall 23" x 26-1/2". Prov: Galerie Werner; Paris, France/Pittsburgh, PA. LeRoux was a notable painter of historical scenes, landscapes and an illustrator. He exhibited in the important Salons of his time, the most famous being the Salon des Artists Francais. Here he won a medal in 1903 and 1911. He also won a medal in Rome in 1906 and the Henner prize in 1920. LeRoux was installed in the French Legion of Honor. His work may be found in the Musee de Petit Palais and the Museum of Modern Art, both in Paris, as well as smaller museums and collections throughout the world.

Portrait of a young boy. Oil on wood panel, with sketches of a child's face and eyes on verso, not signed, framed in a new gilt frame, panel size approx. 14" x 10", with framing overall approx. 19" x 15-1/2". The panel is stamped "Lechertier" on the edge of the back. This indicates it was made by Lechertier Barbe & Co. (or Lechertier Barbe Ltd.) famous dealer in artist's supplies and framer in England from the early 18th Century through the 1970's. Famous artists such as Whistler, Munn, Rosetti, and Winston Churchill were recorded as patrons of this concern. This portrait was possibly executed by Vanessa Bell, also known to have been a customer. Her principally known work was a portrait of Aldous Huxley, though she also painted portraits of her family members in some of works.

This painting is accompanied by an unframed card with an ink sketch and title of the foliage. It is a tonally painted image with the background being a river next to a desert scene with palm trees and mountains in the distance. The branch of pods and leaves are in the direct foreground. The composition is much in the same tradition as early botanical artists created, with a distant landscape in the background and the botanical subjects held very close in front.

A very nice example of a popular subject; the spilled basket of fruit. The rendering of the fruit and leaves surrounding the basket is particularly well done.

There are labels written in French on the back of the frame with the artist's name and inventory numbers, and a label denoting what was perhaps the original owner's name and address in French on the back of the stretcher.
