A pair of 19th Century French gilt mirrors, of oval form, approx. 35-1/2" x 22-1/2" overall, each surrounded by a rope motif, with three meandering candleholder arms at the bottom with tassel details, and an elaborate tie with tassels at the top. The decorations are gesso with a metal armature for support.

A beautiful oval shaped Venetian-style mirror, with a scrolling top ornament comprised of several sections affixed to a black painted wood backing, and other applied beveled and carved glass ornaments, approx. 43"H x 24"W, with floral shapes and other designs carved in the glass pieces.

An Antique Britannia Musical Box

254. An Antique Britannia Musical Box


An antique Britannia musical box, measuring approx. 21-3/8"H x 16-1/2"W x 9-1/2"D. The case is in the form of a two-door table top cabinet with a plinth base set up on small turned legs, pretty inlaid wood doors and a pierced panel above with a scrolling design, with the top a simple crown molding. The case is made from a rich brown wood with parts of the base and the crown painted black, as is the interior. The inlay on the doors is in the form of edge banding around a panel of a different exotic wood. There are classical-motif and heraldic transfer images on each panel in polychrome with gilt, and there are two silver-tone metal key escutcheons, one with a working locking mechanism and it's key on the right side door. In the interior below the workings are encased in the lower portion with a glass front that unscrews. The disc player has a pretty lyre-shaped detail and behind the disc is "The Britannia" on a cast brass plaque. The musical box comes with nine 9" discs. There is a crank handle at the right side of the case and a brake lever.

255. An Antique Regina Musical Box


An antique Regina musical box, measuring approx. 37-3/4"H x 30"W x 11-3/4"D. The upright disc Regina is contained in a beautiful cabinet with a glass front door, the front and sides clad in inlaid wood veneers, and with brasses for ornamentation. The door of the box has case fitted with a coin slot mechanism and the workings have been electrified. Inside the case is lined with a French blue soft textured fabric. Below the upright disc is a setting made to appear as a mirrored stage with metal relief ornamentation surrounding the stage and panels of mirror behind. There are musical putti in metal relief at the top. On the stage are three porcelain ballerinas with porcelain dangling legs, in satin dresses that bob and whirl when the mechanism is activated. There is a small electric light bulb at either side of the stage. The musical box is in working order and comes with one disc, approx. 15-1/2" in diameter with the patent dates 1889 and 1893.

The brass birdcage contains a miniature bird with red and black feathers. He is perched on a stand which is decorated with small leaves and berries and a felt base. Cage is mounted to a gilt base with beadwork and floral repousse border. In good working order. Measures approx. 11"H. Base is unmarked.

A dark stained wooden salesman's sample chest of drawers, approx. 9"W x 5"D x 7-7/8"H. With four drawers with metal ring-pull hardware. The chest is set up on gracefully shaped bracket legs. Made from solid woods, with the bottoms of the drawers in plywood.

258. A Carved Oak Architectural Cartouche


A carved dark oak architectural cartouche, oval in shape, approx. 34" x 25-1/4", on a ramped backing made of layers of oak measuring between 1-1/8" thick to 4-3/4" thick. Presumably this was done so that the carving could be viewed from far below, as in over a doorway. The image is of a bird with wings spread, carved in high relief, surrounded by a winding decorative border, also deeply carved. The piece comes from the long ago demolished St. Agnes Church, once at 71st & Euclid Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio.

An oval carved wax portrait of a lady in natural on a brown oval backing, framed under glass in a period shadowbox frame with a tan velvet deeply beveled mat, a gilt liner, and a black painted ornate outer frame. Overall the frame measures approx. 17" x 14-3/4", and the wax portrait measures approx. 7" x 5". The sitter's name, Mrs. Stanbrooke, the date 1855, and the artists signature are incised in the wax behind the lady.

260. An Antique Wood Relief Picture Of A Martyrdom


An antique carved and painted relief picture of the martyrdom of a bishop. The wooden panel carved in relief with an inscription in calligraphy below the image, framed in a dark wooden frame, approx. 9-1/2" x 8" panel size, with frame overall approx. 11-1/2" x 10". There is an old discolored piece of paper taped to the back with the name of the martyred bishop, S. Johann v Nepomuck, and the story. "The queen of Czecho-Slovakia confessed to the Bishop. The king wished to know what the queen had confessed, but the bishop refused to tell. The soldiers were ordered to torture the bishop and finally throw him into the Molda River. The bishop was made patron saint of Prague." There is also a biblical quote lettered on this sheet.

261. An Exquisite 18th Century Vernis Martin Ivory Fan


This finely painted vernis martin fan features an elaborate genre scene on one side and a landscape on the other. Each end is adorned with portrait medallions, urns, masks and other embellishments, all highlighted in gilt. Tortoiseshell overlay at the crystal studded hinge. The fan measures approx. 9"H when folded, and 17"W unfolded.
