245. A 19th Century Silk Embroidered Picture

A 19th Century silk embroidered picture depicting a scene in a courtyard surrounded by classical architecture with a crowd of people, horses, and a dog. The people display various poses, the central of which is a person handing an infant to a woman, evidently a historical narrative. The embroidery is not signed, framed in a fancy gilt frame with a black lacquer reverse painted glass mat with a gilt inner rim. Overall the sight size measures approx. 16-1/4" x 21-3/4", and with the framing 25" x 28-1/2". Some of the surrounding details are drawn in and not completely embroidered. The composition is somewhat naively rendered, and depicts a variety of periods of costume providing the figures with a charming appearance and appeal. The composition was likely made after a painting.
