45. Georges (Paul) Leroux (French, 1877-1957)

"Elegantes Dans Un Parc". Oil on canvas (oval) mounted down onto board, signed in the lower right, framed in the original ornate gilt frame with a spandrel, picture size approx. 17" x 20-3/4", with framing overall 23" x 26-1/2". Prov: Galerie Werner; Paris, France/Pittsburgh, PA. LeRoux was a notable painter of historical scenes, landscapes and an illustrator. He exhibited in the important Salons of his time, the most famous being the Salon des Artists Francais. Here he won a medal in 1903 and 1911. He also won a medal in Rome in 1906 and the Henner prize in 1920. LeRoux was installed in the French Legion of Honor. His work may be found in the Musee de Petit Palais and the Museum of Modern Art, both in Paris, as well as smaller museums and collections throughout the world.
