13. Rudolf Hirth du Frenes (German, 1846-1916)

Young Girl With A Cat On Her Back or "Young Friends". Oil on canvas, signed in the lower left corner, framed in a deep cove wide gilt frame with a dark wood liner, canvas size approx. 14-3/4" x 10-3/4", with framing overall approx. 22-1/2" x 18-1/2". Prov: Galerie Werner; Paris, France/Pittsburgh, PA. Hirth du Frenes is mostly known for painting scenes from everyday life and portraits. He was the son of Frenchman, Louise Drevelle du Fresnes. From 1861-1864, he was the student of Kreling at L'Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Nuremberg, the fine arts academy. Following this period, he worked at L'Academie de Munich under the direction of A. Von Ramberg. He traveled for five years in Belgium, Holland and France. He debuted at his first Salon around 1870, exhibiting in Vienna, Berlin and Munich. He was a close friend of Leibl and Courbet, a great influence in his life and art.
