307. An Impressive Silvered Tureen by Reed & Barton

Stepped foot supports a wide bombé body of the tureen with a flared reeded rim borders incorporating stylized foliage decorations. Front and back of the tureen engraved with two large cartouches designed with c-scrolls and ribbons, first one depicts a charming scene with three men participating in an ice-skating race while the crowd watches, and the second cartouche features an engraving that reads "Barney and Berry Cup/ Presented by Barney and Berry/ Springfield, Mass./ U.S.A./ Five Mile Championship." Strap bound handles feature acanthus leaves decorations. Two-tiered lid with a bold gadroon decoration and a large knob finial. Bottom bears an incised mark "MF'D & Plated by Reed & Barton 1126-S". Overall this tureen measures approx. 1'3"T x 1'7"W (with handles).

Reed & Barton began their silver plating business in 1857.
