300. A Magnificent Heisler-Manheim Silver Coffee Service, German, ca. Mid - Late 19th Century

This service consists of five pieces: a coffee urn (with a burner) (measures approx. 16"T), a teapot (9-1/2"T), creamer (approx. 6-1/2"), sugar bowl (approx. 6"T) and a tray (19-1/2" x 15"). Molded ram heads are the highlight of the design, as well as cross-bounded C-scroll handles with ivory insulators and acanthus leaves molded decorations. Grapevine finials grace the lids of the service. Concave top with elegant fluting and foliage is separated from a u-shaped bottom by a band with an undulating design. Bottom is decorated with foliage swags accented with ribbons and ram heads. All pieces rest on hoofed feet. Rectangular tray with rounded corners echoes the design of the service pieces and features molded ram heads with laurel swags at 90 degree intervals. The service is properly hallmarked with a German silver standard mark of 800/1000, a crescent moon, a crown, and the maker's mark of the three stars within a triangular cartouche; except for the urn which is marked with a square dotted cartouche (as seen in 15th detail photo). Court's Silversmith, Heisler-Manheim, specialized in Rococo sets. In connection with Belgian silversmith Louis Wolfers (1820-1892) and, from 1890, with his son Philippe. (Ref: Bröhan/Metallkunst der Moderne VI page 27/28). Approx troy oz weights for 800 silver: teapot 35.6, tray 97, coffee urn 110, sugar 26.3, creamer 10.4.
