377. An Early Royal Doulton Porcelain Vase

Stout baluster form, upper part with a small slightly flared rim glazed in blue, tapered body is decorated with a delicate floral pattern in pastel glazes and gilt accents over beige textured ground. Bottom bears the following marks: imprinted "Royal Doulton/ England", imprinted "BW", "TG", "316Y"; hand-written "334. b. .1." in black pigment. The imprinted mark was introduced in the latter part of 1901 to mark the grant of the Royal Warrant by King Edward VII together with the specific right to use the word ROYAL to designate Doulton products. This mark was in general use at Burslem between 1902 and 1922. On smaller wares, only the bottom half of this mark (i.e. omitting the lion and crown) is found. Measures approx. 3-5/8"T.
