| 47. Artist Unknown (British, ca. early 20th Century)
Portrait of a young boy. Oil on wood panel, with sketches of a child's face and eyes on verso, not signed, framed in a new gilt frame, panel size approx. 14" x 10", with framing overall approx. 19" x 15-1/2". The panel is stamped "Lechertier" on the edge of the back. This indicates it was made by Lechertier Barbe & Co. (or Lechertier Barbe Ltd.) famous dealer in artist's supplies and framer in England from the early 18th Century through the 1970's. Famous artists such as Whistler, Munn, Rosetti, and Winston Churchill were recorded as patrons of this concern. This portrait was possibly executed by Vanessa Bell, also known to have been a customer. Her principally known work was a portrait of Aldous Huxley, though she also painted portraits of her family members in some of works. 500/1,000 Sold $546.25 back to catalog |
