| 258. A Carved Oak Architectural Cartouche
A carved dark oak architectural cartouche, oval in shape, approx. 34" x 25-1/4", on a ramped backing made of layers of oak measuring between 1-1/8" thick to 4-3/4" thick. Presumably this was done so that the carving could be viewed from far below, as in over a doorway. The image is of a bird with wings spread, carved in high relief, surrounded by a winding decorative border, also deeply carved. The piece comes from the long ago demolished St. Agnes Church, once at 71st & Euclid Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio. 1,000/2,000 Sold $632.50 back to catalog |
