| 424. Carved Ivory/Bone Seated Quan Yin, Chinese, ca. Early 20th Century
A very well carved Quan Yin (Guanyin), pinnacle of Mercy and Compassion, seated in a graceful pose, holding a beggar's cup in her right hand and with her left hand delicately touching her chin. She is seated on a three-part pedestal carved with lotus petals, low relief carved masks of foo dogs (the mythological protectors of the goddess) and stylized scalloped decorations on at the base. Tranquil expression of the Quan Yin's face is a testament to the skills of the artist carver. Bottom of the carving is marked with an apocryphal style mark. Overall the piece measures approx. 13½"T. The carving rests on a fitted wooden base. 800/1,200 Sold $948.75 back to catalog |
