| 280. A Vintage Toy Beer Wagon Drawn By Eight Horses
A vintage movable toy beer wagon in cast iron, drawn a team of eight horses, with two men seated in the wagon and a white dog seated between, painted in polychrome (probably original), with 27 wooden barrels loose in the back, ca. 1930. The men and the dog are removable, and each team of two horses and their harness are separate, screwed together at the harness. The wheels are movable. No maker's marks found. The reins are made of leather, and the swagged chains are a bright brass. This piece was probably made by the Kenton Hardware Company, maker of cast iron toys from Kenton, Ohio, ac. approx. 1890-1952. The Kenton Hardware Company was promoted as "the largest factory in the USA exclusively making cast iron toys" at the turn of the twentieth century. One of Hardin County's largest employers, the factory produced a variety of toys that were miniature versions of fire engines, circus wagons, carriages, banks, trains, and stoves. 600/800 Sold $517.50 back to catalog |
