161. Raymond Nott (American, 1888-1948)

Evening Scene. Pastel on paper, signed in pencil in the lower left corner, matted and framed under glass, sight size approx. 18-3/4" x 23", with framing overall approx. 27" x 30-1/2".

"Pastelist, painter. Born in Kirksville, MO on April 20, 1887. After his parents separated, Raymond's mother operated a chain of variety stores in the Black Hills where he was raised. Early in life he attended a military school and studied at the AIC. He later was associated with the Roycroft Studios in New York where his mother ran a weaving school. After joining the Navy at the outbreak of WWI, he was sent to San Diego, CA. Upon discharge, he settled in Los Angeles where his paintings were handled by the Bernay Gallery. Working in pastel and oil, he produced mountain landscapes until his death in Los Angeles on Dec. 6, 1948. Exh: Bernay's (LA); Hollywood Athletic Club, 1920s." askart.com
