254. An Antique Britannia Musical Box

An antique Britannia musical box, measuring approx. 21-3/8"H x 16-1/2"W x 9-1/2"D. The case is in the form of a two-door table top cabinet with a plinth base set up on small turned legs, pretty inlaid wood doors and a pierced panel above with a scrolling design, with the top a simple crown molding. The case is made from a rich brown wood with parts of the base and the crown painted black, as is the interior. The inlay on the doors is in the form of edge banding around a panel of a different exotic wood. There are classical-motif and heraldic transfer images on each panel in polychrome with gilt, and there are two silver-tone metal key escutcheons, one with a working locking mechanism and it's key on the right side door. In the interior below the workings are encased in the lower portion with a glass front that unscrews. The disc player has a pretty lyre-shaped detail and behind the disc is "The Britannia" on a cast brass plaque. The musical box comes with nine 9" discs. There is a crank handle at the right side of the case and a brake lever.
