"Mimosa ", produced by Alexander Smith and Sons Carpet Company, New York, 1951, from a limited edition of 500, signed with a woven signature. Measuring approx. 58" x 36", dyed wool on cotton in multi-colors. Created from his famous paper cut-out, Mimosa was Matisse's only design originally for a carpet. Inspired by the festival "La Bataille de Fleurs" in Nice, France, Matisse chose the Mimosa as the motif because it is the most popular flowering tree along the Cote d'Azur.
