"Mimosa ", produced by Alexander Smith and Sons Carpet Company, New York, 1951, from a limited edition of 500, signed with a woven signature. Measuring approx. 58" x 36", dyed wool on cotton in multi-colors. Created from his famous paper cut-out, Mimosa was Matisse's only design originally for a carpet. Inspired by the festival "La Bataille de Fleurs" in Nice, France, Matisse chose the Mimosa as the motif because it is the most popular flowering tree along the Cote d'Azur. 2,000/3,000 Sold $2,932.50 back to catalog |
