777. A Lot of Three Small Metal Relief Plaques


A lot of three small metal relief plaques, consisting of: a cast copper plaque titled "The National Arts Club New York...Founded 1899" with a young woman in classical dress placing a vase on a pedestal, signed V.D. Brenner '04, approx. 4-1/8"H x 3"W x 1/8" thick; next a two sided bronze plaque with a brown patina, one side depicting a classically dressed woman flying over an industrial landscape with a railroad titled "Associationn Charbonniere...1914 - Du Centre - 1917, signed G. Devreese, the other side depciting a railroad loading area titled "Ravitaillement" (Supply) and with the artist's initials, the date 1916 and stamped "Epreuve D'Autre", approx. 2-1/2" x 2-5/8" x 1/8", with an arched top, and also stamped on the bottom edge "J. F. Onson"; and last a two sided bronze plaque with a ruddy brown patina, one side depicting two women with one pointing at the title "Inauguration du Chemin de Fer Bas Congo-Katanga par L.L.M.M. de La Reine...12 Juillet...1928" the other woman kneeling and pointing to the outline of the rail line with the cities Port-Francqu, Bukama, (...)ambove, and Elisabethville, with the artist's signature, Fuq. J. de Bremaecker...1929, commemorating the inauguration of the railway. The other side of the plaque depicts "Travail et Progres" (motto of the Belgian Congo) with a man appearing to be digging the ground while a seated man points, also with the artist's signature and 1929, and the a monogram (Amis de la Medaille d'Art). The bottom edge of the plaque is stamped "J. Fonson".

A brushed brass personal ashtray with a turned brass handle and a circle of porcelain set on top with a transfer print of a hunting scene. The box measures approx. 1-1/2" x 1-1/2' x 1/2" and has a hinged lid. The interior has a small support for the cigarette. There are no maker's markings. Made ca. 1950's.
