727. An Impressive Clock Garniture Set, ca. Early 20th Century


A gilt bronze clock with hand painted porcelain inserts and cloisonne borders, with a porcelain urn on top. It has curved glass sides and a beveled glass door and a swinging pendulum. The dial has Arabic numerals and hand painted with flowers and an image of a tambourine. Along with the clock are two porcelain urns on gilt plinth bases with matching cloisonne, griffon handles and a flared neck. Both are marked "France" on bottom and hand painted on the front and back, signed by "LeFranc". The movement was made by by Samuel Marti, Paris, ca. 1900, with the works stamped "Medaille d'or 1900 Samuel Marti Paris". It was originally retailed by I. Kremer, Paris, as is stamped on the works as well. The clock measures approx. 18-1/2"T x 13-3/4"W x 5-1/2"D; the urns approx. 14-3/4"T x 4-1/8"W at base.

An antique tantalus with brass and mother of pearl inlay decorations on burlwood veneered rosewood (?). Beveled front with brass escutcheon. Top with a monogrammed mother of pearl medallion. Interior with two-tiered lift-out compartment with gilt brass decorative handle and hardware. The compartment holds 16 cordials and four decanters with stoppers. (Please note two cordials are replacements and one is missing, total of 15 cordials present). Overall the tantalus measures approx. 10-1/2"T x 13"W x 11"L.

A French embroidered and painted picture, ca. 18th/19th Century, with a pretty shepherdess seated in a field holding a skein of wool. Her dog stands near her side and two sheep and a goat also near. Overall the frame measures approx. 14" x 17-1/2" and the sight size of the embroidery is approx. 11" x 14-1/2".

An antique wool and silk embroidered picture, English, ca. 18th/19th Century, framed in a very old gilt frame, with old rolled glass, measuring approx. 12-1/2" x 16" sight size, and with the frame overall approx. 17" x 20-1/2". The scene depicted is an arch of a ruin in a landscape, worked mainly in wool with a small amount of silk in the foreground. The fabric is stretched over wooden stretchers and fit directly against the glass.

The lower cabinet with a door and a drawer base, the upper cabinet with a glass front door and three interior sections (two shelves). Unmarked, unsigned, and measuring approx. 17"T x 5-3/4"W x 4-1/2"D.

A miniature Hepplewhite slant front desk, ca. 19th Century. With two long drawers with one short drawer, flanked by pull-out desk supports for the hinged desk surface. There is a leather insert on the desk top; five compartments and one drawer on the interior. The desk is embellished with blond wood banding with burled wood veneer. This is a very fine hand-made example. The desk measures approx. 9-3/4"T x 9-1/16"W x 5-3/8"D, and is unsigned and unmarked.

An Oriental style chest of drawers on stand, two front hinged doors carved with a landscape with architectural elements, enclosed with greek key borders. Sides of the chest carved with floral motif ornaments. There are three drawers in the interior of the chest. Stand is also carved with floral vignettes. Wood, probably pine, dyed and lacquered. Overall this piece measures approx. 10"T x 8-1/2"W x 5"L.
