| 190. A Kathe Kollwitz Unsigned Print (German, 1867-1945)
"Self Portrait Seated At A Table". A von der Becke edition, ca. 1931, Knesebeck No. 21, an edition of an etching with aquatint by Kathe Kollwitz depicting an 1892/3 self portrait, with blind stamp in the lower right corner of the plate (A.v.d.Becke/Muenchen 22), the plate size approx. 7" x 5", and with matting and framing under glass overall approx. 14-1/2" x 12-1/2". The paper size is 13" x 10-1/4". The artist was twenty-five years old when she created this image; one of her earliest self-portraits. Concerned with the living conditions of the poor, with whom she lived in north Berlin, Kollwitz etched and sculpted some of the most poignant images of the World War I years. This print is one of the posthumous editions which von der Becke was authorized to publish by the heirs of the artist. 400/600 Sold $241.50 back to catalog |
