| 28. Johann (John) Christian Zeitter (British, 1820 - 1862)
"St. Stefans Feier in Ungarn" (The Feast of St. Stephen). Oil on wood panel, framed with linen mat, not signed, image size approx. 13" x 29", and the approx. size with frame is 19" x 35", partial older exhibition tags on verso, larger tag also on verso reads: "For the Birmingham Exhibition, 1851, Subject: The Celebration of St. Stephanus in Hungary,....." Zeitter, originally of German extraction, became a citizen of England in 1841. He was a member of the Royal Society of British Artists, and exhibited his work at the Suffolk Street Gallery in London. He became the son-in-law of the famous British artist, Henry Alken, for whom he did engraving work. 3,000/5,000 Sold $2,530.00 back to catalog |
