250. A Wood Carving of St. Casilda, ca. 18th Century

A sculptural painted wood carving of St. Casilda, (d. 1050) measuring approx. 31"H x 10"D x 10"W, missing the lower legs and feet and one arm, with remnants of a gessoed and painted finish overall. St. Casilda was the daughter of a Moorish governor of Toledo. Despite her father’s will she used to bring food to the imprisoned Christians. Once she was caught, but the bread she was fetching in the folds of her dress miraculously turned into roses.
