179. French, 18th Century, each inscribed Lambeck (Peter Lambeck, 1628-1680)

A collection of ten engravings on paper, each depicting a different month of the year with allegorical figures and other symbolic props, and each with a poem in Latin (by Decimus Magnus Ausonius, poet, ca. 310-395) below the image. The plate marks measure approx. 12-3/4" x 7-3/8", and each is matted and framed separately and measures approx. 20" x 14". Some of the images have the name "Lambec" or "Lambecius" in the lower center. The book "Prodromus Historiae Literariae" was published by Lambeck in 1659 and reissued in 1710. The images are called "Ausonii Tetrastichon" which means four-line stanzas. These may be restrikes of that tome.
