751. A Fancy Brass and Glass Watch Holder, French, ca. 1875-1900

A fancy brass and glass watch holder, French, ca. 1875-1900. The cast glass figurine that forms the central body of the piece represents a baby on the back of a snail on a mound base that is bordered by an egg and dart design. Part of this is frosted and part is clear glass. The armature that holds the glass piece is in a thick bent wire with ornamentation of viny leaves and dasies. The circular top part that would house the watch has a beaded detail all around and more viny leaves at the top. This part is also a bell that is struck with a spring arm to the right made with the same thick metal wire. Originally the metals were painted and gilded, now mostly worn off. Overall the piece measures 8-1/4"H.
