A miniature portrait on ivory, framed in an inlaid bone frame with a slightly convex glass cover, overall measuring approx. 4-1/2" x 4", with the oval portrait measuring approx. 1-3/4" x 1-1/2". The dust cover paper on the back has a text printed in German taken from a book; "Marquise de Pompadour" is written in pencil along one edge.
