| 31. Willliam Maw Egley (British, 1826-1916)
"Tracing The Ship's Course". Oil on canvas, signed in the lower left corner, the canvas size approx. 30" x 31-1/2", and with framing overall approx. 35-1/2" x 37". A narrative scene with a man seated in an armchair, probably a merchant ship owner, studying the globe while his pretty daughter looks on. A disarray of charts, books, maps an artifacts from other countries are also depicted in front of the man. Behind the girl is a window overlooking the sea with a lamp and some daffodils on the sill. There is a Frost & Reed sticker on the stretcher. There is also a gallery label on the lower stretcher that has been mostly scratched off. 2,500/5,000 Sold $3,220.00 back to catalog |
