805. A Fine Cloisonne Vase from the Ando Jubei Kiln

A finely made, part wireless cloisonne vase, with a large bulbous body and a small silver metal rim around the foot with an impressed mark from the Ando Jubei kiln. The interior is enameled in a grey-green mottled glaze and the exterior thickly enameled, mostly in a plain ivory glaze, with two clusters of images of carp in cloisonne flowing around the wide part of the sides. The beautifully executed fish are delicate in color, and have the skillful effect of appearing at a distance through the water surrounding them. Overall the vase measures 8-1/2"H x 9-1/2" at the widest point. Though imperfect, the principal appeal of the vase is from the serene and restrained composition. Professional repair would greatly improve the appearance and the enjoyment of the undamaged parts.
