12. Inca Chancay Culture Stenciled Textile, Late Intermediate Period, ca. 100 AD

Late intermediate period, or Cuismancu, central coast. This culture's textiles are finely woven. Painted and stenciled cloth with "Devil" figure in center, flanked by cats, Three colors on woven cloth. Edged, left edge with fringe. 25" x 51". Provenance: Ex-collection of Doris Cameron (d. 2006) of Fresno CA. This item entered her collection of Peruvian History prior to 1990 and had been shown and vetted by several museum curators between 1988-98. Chinese cabinet, top shelf.
