981. Officers Silver Cutlery Set in Leather Case, Vienna, ca. 1809-10
A traveling set of flatware in a leather container, overall measuring approx. 5-1/2"H x 3-1/8" in diameter at the widest point. The brown leather-clad case has tooling at the top and a metal latch. The interior of the lid is covered in a blue velvet and the interior of the base is covered in blue silk. There is an insert covered in blue velvet with a small gilt paper beaded trim at the top that contains disassembled flatware, with handles that screw onto the larger spoon, knife and fork. The small spoon has no additional handle. The three handles are engraved at the ends with "H". The velvet section fits closely into a silver cup, also engraved with the letter "H", that fits snugly into the container. The backs of the two spoon bowls are also monogrammed. The cup, spoons and fork have multiple impressed hallmarks. (Vienna, ca. 1809-10). The weight of the sterling parts is approx. 8.92 troy oz.
