488. A Superbly Carved Burmese Jadeite Censor, Chinese
A superbly carved censor of translucent Burmese jadeite with specs of apple green when seen with light shining through. The censor is carved in traditional manner with curved panel sides, handles in the form of lion masks carved with suspended rings; the removable lid is surmounted by a mythological lion figure; all supported by four carved bun feet. The carving rests on a finely carved wood base inlaid with reticulated bone inserts and engraved with curvilinear pattern filled with black pigment. The censor measures approx. 4-3/8"T x 5-3/8"L x 2-3/8"W. The base measures approx. 2-1/2"T. This piece was originally purchased by a Cleveland collector at the Ashkenazie & Co, a famous San Francisco, CA Imperial Jade Gallery.

489. A Pair of 19th Century Japanese Export Imari Vases with Covers
A matched pair of vases with the original covers. Both have a celadon green cast to the glaze with under-glaze blue decoration, polychrome red/orange with gold detailing. They have a very slight foot with a high shoulder. The dome type covers have tear-drop shaped knop. With the covers, each measures approx. 15"T (measured without the carved wood bases). Both have carved wood display bases.

The jar has a carved wooden lid; the vase alone measures approx. 10-1/4"T.

A tall Rose Medallion vase, with two applied "handles" in the shape of lion's heads with rings, with a rounded lid surmounted by a gilt foo dog, and with a carved and pierced wooden base. The sides are encrusted with elaborate decorations in sections that feature courtly scenes, flowers, insects, birds and other decorative patterns. Overall the vase measures approx. 26"H x 9" in diameter at the widest point. The wood base measures 7-7/8" in diameter x 2"H.

A set of five Rose Medallion nesting jars with lids, each in a simple cylindrical shape with a fitted lid, each marked on the lip to show the correct positioning of the lid, in graduated sizes from 4"H x 3-3/4" in diameter to 1-1/4"H x 1" in diameter. The boxes are decorated with the typical Rose Medallion images of people, flowers, vines, birds and fruit. Each fits neatly inside the next size jar.

The underside of this vase has an underglaze blue character mark, reading "Chen Lung", however this is a modern piece. The bulbous shape has a flared rim and a small foot. It is finished in a controlled glaze over incised Awabi design overall with a Chinese symbol on both the front and back. There is a small border design at the base and at rim. Beautiful green color with tones of blue. Approx. 13-3/4"T x 8-1/2"W at shoulder.

Nepalese Blanc de Chine figurine of seated Buddha, with all appropriate attributes, seated in the lotus pose, right hand raised, and left one holding a ruyi scepter. The gracefully draping garments feature fine detailing. The backsplash is a double arabesque form with finely detailed designs. Buddha is seated on the lotus-shaped pedestal. 507. A Large Japanese Bronze Kagami Mirror in a Fitted Lacquered Box, Japanese, ca. Late Edo Period
A large bronze mirror with a graceful relief design on verso depicting cranes and a turtle near a body of water and a vertical row of Japanese characters on the left; the mirror with remnants of silvering, with a handle wrapped in wicker over a woven fabric. The mirror is encased in a fitted lacquered box with a round wood insert with a padded textile figure decoration, with the original tissue wrapping paper liner bearing Japanese calligraphy. There is a small sliding cover in the box over the handle to help secure it. Overall with the case the mirror measures approx. 14"L x 10-1/2"W.

510. A Carved Gilt and Polychrome Statue of Buddha
A carved and gilt and polychrome shrine statue of Buddha. He is seated in dhyanasana on a double lotus base, wearing a voluminous robe, delicately modeled features in a serene expression, atop his head a pierced crown, and with his hands pointing to earth and sky, measuring approx. 32"H. The statue can be tentatively attributed to the 19th Century or possibly earlier. The carved wood core forms are pieced and covered with a textile underneath the gesso, over which a fine finish was applied, now worn by time.
