472. Nikolai Ivanovich Liberich (Russian, 1828-1883) A majestic cast bronze statue of a rearing bear on a base with tree trunks, seated on a black polished marble base, with a black patina. The foundry name (Eplel) is impressed into the mound base, and a statement is also impressed into the base stating that "This bear was killed by the Russian Emperor (Alexander III) at the place named Apsetsa, March 9, 1865" in cyrillic. Each is depicted in semi-profile stance facing each other. The name of the artist is in relief at the lower left behind the man's leg. The bronze is affixed atop a dark wood frame.
