934. A Pair of Silver Plated Buffet Plates, ca. 19th Century
A pair of silver plate repousse wall plaques, ca. 1905, each approx. 16" in diameter x 2-1/2"D, with wood backing and wiring for hanging, each fashioned with a deep relief pictorial image in the center of a beautiful woman in profile surrounded by foliage and fish, and with a butterfly on her shoulder. The image is surrounded by different classical ornamentation on each piece, also in a deep relief. Each piece also has four ball ornaments affixed to the outer rim. No maker's marks were found.

935. A French Silver Paper Weight With Gold Wash
A silver paper weight with gold wash, marked on the underside with the first standard mark, 1838, Paris, in the shape of an eagle with spread wings standing in a laurel leaf ornament held between two cornucopia shapes, atop a rectangular architectural base with four small rounded feet, measuring approx. 2-1/4"W x 1-1/8"D x 2"H.

936. A Pair of A George III Master Salt Boats by Peter & Ann Bateman and Peterson & Podie, London ca. 1796 and 1789
A matched pair of master salt boats of elegant elongated form with slightly pointed ends and reeded edges, resting on a flared ovoid bases. Interior with traces of gilt- wash. Exterior with family crest (rubbed from two centuries of polishing). First boat was made by Peter & Ann Bateman (London - reg. 1791) - son and daughter-in-law of the famous Hester Bateman, eighteenth century silversmith, who took over her husband's failing business and developed it to be one of the most important silversmith companies of that century. Second boat is by Abraham Peterson & Peter Podie, (London - reg. 1783), and is seven years earlier (1789) than the first boat, and might be a prototype Bateman's used in the later years. Nonetheless, it is apparent that the two boats were a pair for a long time. Both are appropriately marked with the hallmarks of the period and measure approx. 2½"H x 4"L x 2"W. Weight approx. 4.6 troy oz.

937. A Victorian Inkwell Set
A fancy Victorian inkwell set in silver metal, with a rectangular base set up on scrolling feet, and with an array of relief decorations and incised decorations on all surfaces. The plateau has an applied ornament for monogramming at the front. On the top of the plateau are two receptacles for ink (one lacking the glass and metal insert) two brackets that would hold a pen, and a central statuette of a classical lady carrying a scroll and a sword. Overall the piece measures approx. 8-1/2"H x 9-1/2" x 5-1/2". No markings were found other than the letters "MS" impressed into the bottom of one foot. There is a small rectangular opening in the front of the base at the right side, corresponding to what appears to be half of a hinge on the underside, indicating the piece may have been attached to a larger base at some time.

938. A Grand Tour Jeanne d'Arc Figure Silver Seal, Italian, Rome, ca. 1815-1870
A Grand Tour silver figural piece of Jeanne d'Arc holding her shield over her head with her left hand and holding a what appears to be a flag in her right, the whole figure rests on a two-tiered pedestal. Bloodstone seal with an "M" script monogram. Papal State hallmark: mitre and cross, purity degree 889/1000, used from 1815 to September 20, 1870 (hallmark # 156: Argenti Italiani dell'Ottocento vol. 1- V.Donaver - R. Dabbene). Weight approx. 4.5 troy oz. Measures approx. 4-1/2"T.

Two matched figural vases each featuring a young boy gardeners holding up a trumpet vase. Top of the conical bases finished to resemble grass and flowers, a shovel leaning on a rock is a nice accent. The vases are monogrammed "BK". Both vases are stamped underneath the bases with the first Gorham hallmark, used from 1852-1865. Measure approx. 6¾"T.

941. An English Sterling Silver Tea Pot, London, ca. 1865-66
This lovely tea pot features a short stout shaped body with engraved floral pattern and two (non-monogramed) medallions, an elegantly curved handle with c-scrolls, fluted spout, and a charming mellon finial. It has bone insulators on the handle. Fully hallmarked on the underside, as well as under the lid, on the finial and handle. Possibly by the Roberts & Briggs Company, London, ca. 1865-66. Weight approx. 19.3 troy oz. and measuring approx. 5-1/2"T (with handle) x 6-1/4"W.

942. English Victorian Sterling Silver Standish by Stuart Clifford, London, ca. 1882
Antique Victorian standish with a c-scroll engraved platform featuring a pen compartment engraved with ribbon design, and a single glass ink-well cut in diamond pattern and fitted with sterling silver stopper engraved with a similar design. The platform is raised on three scroll feet. Both the stopper and platform are properly hallmarked with a lion passant, leopard head (London), date mark "G" within a shield cartouche, and a tariff mark. Maker's mark "SC" for Stuart Clifford (London, red. 1874). The standish measures approx. 7½"W x 4½"L x 1"T, the inkwell is approx. 3"T x 2¼"W.

943. A Set of Six Russian Enamel Spoons, Moskow ca.1899-1908
The six spoons have pear shaped bowls, the exterior done with green, lilac, turquoise, white and clear red enamel in a pan-slavic design. The interior of the spoons is gold-washed and monogrammed with a letter "P". The tapered beveled handles are decorated with lilac and turquoise enamels, as well as white enamel dots, terminating with crown shaped finials. Each spoon is hallmarked with 88 zolotnik kokoshnik mark, Moskow ca. 1899-1908 (Postnikova-Loseva # 3878), maker's initials in Cyrillic "I Kh", possibly of Ivan Petrovich Khlebnikov. Each measures approx. 5-3/4"L.

Silversmiths Cyrillic initials in a square stamp, Alekseì V. Stepanov (Postnikova-Loseva # 2243). An elaborate hinged sterling silver and and enamel in Pan-Slavic style. Stippled silver ground cigarette case with multi-colored enamels in an overall stylized foliage with turquoise beaded borders. Hallmaked on the exterior with 84 zolotnik and maker, Moskow circa 1880 (Postnikova-Loseva # 2019). Gold-washed interior. Measures approx. 4"L x 2-1/2"W x 1/2"H.

A small enamel cloisonne tray by Gustav Klingert. The tray features various colors of enamel including turquoise, navy, blue, lilac, red, and white enamel dot outline as well as some accents within the design. The tray is shallow, with curvilinear sides. Base, although tarnished, bears assay marks of Anatoliì Apollonovich Artsibashev (P-L# 2125), and maker's mark "G.K" within a square cartouche. Overall the piece measures approx. 2½" x 5¼".

A pair of antique hand-worked repousse silver salt shakers in a baluster shape, with the sides of the body hand decorated in relief with scenes of figures in front of a rustic tavern building. The round domed and pierced tops are surmounted by a flower shape. The pair weigh approx. 4.575 troy oz. and measure 4-1/8"H. One only is marked on the underside, with a profile looking left in a shield shape and a three-masted ship.

A large oval sterling silver serving tray with handles at either end and standing on four scrolling feet. Overall the tray measures 22-1/2" x 16-1/2", and is decorated with an undulating rim bordered on the outside by a ridge of deep relief scrolling forms. The handles have similar forms. It is marked in the center of the underside and also has two small eagle form hallmarks under the rim at the widest points of either side indicating a pre-1979 date. It weighs approx. 75.6 troy oz.

A circular framed vanity mirror made in sterling silver by Tiffany & Co., with the 1-3/8" wide frame measuring 14-7/8" in diameter, with the name "Frances" engraved at the top, marked on the side of the bottom of the circle, with a waterfall edge beveled mirror, and backed with a wooden form with a hinged leg for standing on a table top. The frame and the backing are held together by turn buttons and a hinged bar on the reverse. Inside the wood portion, there is a circular cushion of wool bumpcloth.
