An excellent Japanese Satsuma vase, Meiji Period, unsigned by the maker, in a variation of a gourd shape with two flowing asymmetrical handles near the neck, measuring approx. 7-1/2"H, with minutely detailed and intricate gilt and raised enameled decorations over a cobalt blue glaze, and two vignettes of clear glaze containing pictures of courtly scenes; one with women and children and the other with musicians and warriors. Around the foot of the bowl is a raised image in grey-blue glazes of sea waves. The underside of the bowl bears an aproyphal cobalt blue underglazed 6-character mark of the Kangxi Period; a tribute to an earlier reign. The box measures approx. 5" in diameter x 2"H on a low foot.

The teapot measures 05-1/2"H, the creamer 4-1/4"H and the sugar container 4-1/4"H.
