"Ecbe". A ceramic vase impressed with a stylized geometric pattern, covered in a matte cream slip, signed in black "Claude Conover" and titled on the underside. It measures approx. 15"T. Mr. Conover was the Ohio Arts Council’s recipient of the Cleveland Arts Prize in 1983 and he was considered part of the "Cleveland School". The term was first coined by Elrick Davis a 1928 article for the Cleveland Press, titled "Cleveland's Art Pioneers Have Put City in Front Rank in Creative Field."

Color aquatint, signed in pencil in the lower right margin and '32, titled in the lower left margin, matted and framed under glass, the plate size 5-1/2" x 6-7/8", and with the framing overall 18-14" x 16-1/8". Origninal printed label on verso. This is a Print a Month series publication of the Cleveland Printmaker's Club, which was an organization devoted to keeping the print market alive during the lean years of the Great Depression.

The Tortoise and the Hare. Cast ceramic with polychrome glazes, signed on the back of the base under the glaze, "Federal Art Project Cleveland, Ohio" written in the hollow interior, measuring approx. 5-3/4"H x 6"W x 3"D. Early in the race, the scoundrel hare appears to be taking the lead i front of the slow and steady tortoise, while a buzzard on a stump spectates.

A mold-cast ceramic figurine of a story teller (Uncle Remus) with a young girl seated on his knee. Two dogs are at his feet as well. The piece is signed under the glaze at the back of the base and the artist's name is also incised in the interior. Also painted in the interior is "Federal Art Project Cleveland Ohio". The figurine measures 5-1/2"H 2-3/4"W x 4"D.

A Cowan Pottery decanter in the shape of the Alice In Wonderland character, the White Queen, in clear glazed ceramic, measuring approx. 9-3/4"H, with the queen holding her scepter and wearing the distinctive loopy skirt, marked on the edge of the base. This piece was designed for Cowan Pottery by Waylande Gregory.

Lunette Design. Oil on a thin wood veneer paper in colors, signed at the lower left, matted and framed under glass, measuring approx. 10-3/4" x 24-1/4" sight size, and with the framing overall approx. 19-1/4" x 29-1/4". There is a hand-written note on the back of the dust cover that reads "After graduating from the Cleveland School of Art, I attended Wednesday evening classes at John Huntington Polytechnic Institute, for five years. Henry G. Keller, Dean of Art, taught Advanced Design. This lunet design was made as a class project. I created and chose my subject. This is done on a paper with a very thin wood veneer. Had it not been for this class I would never have created seventeen murals. Four were in the Cleveland Hopkins Airport."

243. Three Kokoon Arts Club Masks From An Undated Bal Masque


Created by Neff for himself and his wife. Three home-made Kokoon Arts Club Masks from undated Bal Masque celebrations, including two of women's faces and one of a man's. Also included is part of a breast-plate from another costume. The pieces are hand molded in papier mache, cardboard, and knit fabric, and hand painted in vivid colors for use in one night's revels.
