1264. An Antique Thread Cabinet

An antique thread cabinet with a single drawer in the lower portion and with tambour doors in the upper portion, which once contained two trays for spools of thread. The cabinet is made of walnut, and the tambour doors are lined with a linen fabric. There is a partial hand-written note on the back of the piece intended to record provenance, and with a date of 1879 legible. The drawer of the cabinet contains an article from The Cleveland Press, Saturday, March 8, 1975 describing a similar piece and with a history of spooled thread by Ralph & Terry Kovel; itself a unique artifact. The cabinet measures approx. 8-3/4"W x 4-3/4"D x 11-1/2"H.
