| 252. Alexander Blazys (Lithuanian/American, 1894-1963)
A plaster portrait bust on a pedestal depicting a child, probably made prior to casting in bronze, signed and dated 1931 on the shoulder. The bust measures approx. 12"H. Alexander Blazys was born and schooled in Europe, exhibiting work in such illustrious venues as the Salon des Independants in Paris. He moved to the United States in 1923 working mainly on sculpture commissions, and settled in Cleveland in 1925. He was head of the Cleveland School of Art from 1926-1938. He worked for Cowan Pottery ca. 1927 in ceramic design. He was awarded first prize for sculpture in the Cleveland Museum of Art May Shows of 1926, 1927 and 1928. 300/500 Sold $34.50 back to catalog |
