An original Kokoon Arts Club Bal Bizarre invitation/poster. Lithograph in colors on paper printed by the Crane Howard Litho. Co. in 1930, matted in a contemporary frame and mat under glass, the sight size measuring approx. 19-1/4" x 13", and with the framing overall approx. 27-1/2" x 20-1/4". There is an article photocopied from a book about the club on the back of the framing. "The Kokoon Arts Club was one of Cleveland's most active artists' organizations between 1911-40. It was largely known for its unconventional activities and its espousal of "new art". Founded in 1911 by Carl Moellman and Wm. Sommer, the club was based on avant-garde artists' organizations in New York that sought new forms of artistic expression as alternatives to the conformity of academic art."..."The ball featured unconventional costumes, exotic dances, opening processions, enormous props and clashing decorations, and unpredictable "stunts" throughout....The last "Bal Masque" was held in 1946." 500/800 Sold $603.75 back to catalog |
