A magnificent carved walnut Chippendale style side chair with a needlepoint/pettipoint seat with a multicolor floral motif and nailhead trim on the perimeter. The inside back of the chair is intricately carved with flowing foliate designs and with the heads of eagles at the shoulders. The front legs are also very intricately carved with scrolling foliate forms in deep relief and more birds' heads. The gracefully flowing legs terminate with ball and claw feet, realistically carved though missing some of the talons. The back legs taper to simple pad feet. Overall the chair measures 24"W x 19"D x 37"H.
