| 488. A Superbly Carved Burmese Jadeite Censor, Chinese
A superbly carved censor of translucent Burmese jadeite with specs of apple green when seen with light shining through. The censor is carved in traditional manner with curved panel sides, handles in the form of lion masks carved with suspended rings; the removable lid is surmounted by a mythological lion figure; all supported by four carved bun feet. The carving rests on a finely carved wood base inlaid with reticulated bone inserts and engraved with curvilinear pattern filled with black pigment. The censor measures approx. 4-3/8"T x 5-3/8"L x 2-3/8"W. The base measures approx. 2-1/2"T. This piece was originally purchased by a Cleveland collector at the Ashkenazie & Co, a famous San Francisco, CA Imperial Jade Gallery. 2,000/4,000 Sold $51,807.50 back to catalog |
