A beautifully carved and finished ivory figural group with a man and a boy standing on an irregular arched base, with a monkey seated at the man's feet and one on his back. Minutely detailed and with incised embellishments, the scene has the suggestion of a narrative. Overall the piece measures approx. 8"H x 7-1/2"W x 3"D, and is carved in several pieces, invisibly pegged together. The seated monkey has a missing arm, broken at the elbow; the object in the man's left hand is broken off; there was another object pegged to his left side with is missing; the boy is missing his left forearm and whatever was in his right hand is gone. The boy's garment appears to be chipped on his left shoulder. There is glue residue around the man's feet.
