A stormy scene with a beach, wharf and ships at sea beyond. Oil on canvas, signed in the lower left corner, framed in a wide gold metal leafed frame with hand-carved rounded corners, the canvas size approx. 24" x 36", and with the framing overall approx. 32" x 43-1/2".
Gustave de Breanski was a brother of the noted English landscape painter Alfred de Breanski. Like all the artists in the family, he painted landscapes, Scottish highland scenes, river scenes, and coastal scenes. He appears to have made a specialty of the coastal scenes. His style was broader and more impressionistic than the other de Breanski painters.
