249. A Wall Ornament by Joseph Terr, ca. 1932

An Art Deco wall ornament in the shape of a mask, designed by Joseph Terr, ca. 1932. The mask is hollow and is cast in aluminum with an gilt and antiqued finish, with "Copyright 1932" and "Joseph Terr, Designer" with the date 1932, the artist's monogram and initials in reverse cast inside the back. The image is of a pretty lady's face with long flowing stylized hair, with a ring tab at the top for hanging. Overall it measures 8-5/8"H x 5-7/8"W. This item is from the same design sold in the May 2006 auction, but with a different inscription on the back.

Joseph Terr was the chief designer for the Seville Studios, which was a subsidiary of the Superior Foundry in Cleveland. They produced small decorative ornaments for the home including bookends, candlesticks, small stands and tables. He was also a painter and member of the Bohemian artists' group.
