"Spring." 1963. Oil on canvas/board, signed, dated and inscribed on verso in Cyrillic. Image size approx. 6" x 8½"; framed overall approx. 16" x 18½". Nikolai Ovchinnikov was born in Mizhuli village, Mariinsko-Posadski region of Russia. He started his fine art studies at the Altynsk Art College. In 1944 he joined the USSR Union of Artists. In 1951 he graduated from the Repin's Institute of Fine Art. Ovchinnikov was very active throughout his career and was awarded numerous prestigious awards and prizes for his works. Works by Ovchinnikov are now displayed in numerous regional museum and private collections, as well as many of them were bought by museums and galleries in the US, Britain, France, and Japan.
