An antique elaborately hand made cabinet for storing valuables, measuring approx. 15-1/2"H plus the 2"H ornament at the top x 13"W x 8"D. The front, sides, and interior surfaces are all clad in beautifully grained wood veneers with elegant marquetry details. The front of the chest is serpentine and has two doors of conforming shape, with a working lock and key on the right hand door and interior bolts on the left door. The interior contains four full-width drawers and six small drawers surrounding an open compartment with one shelf covered in a decorative paper. All the drawers have matching antique brass knobs. Each drawer front is decorated with marquetry scrolls around the knobs. Especially charming are the marquetry figures of the man holding a bouquet on the left door face and the shepherdess holding a flower on the right door. Above the figures are marquetry rococo scrolls, coordinating with the scrolls inset in the panels of the side.
