1188. An Antique "Concerta" Ideal Sublime Cylinder Musical Box, Jacot Music Box Co.

An antique "Concerta" Ideal Sublime musical box, in a pretty hinged-lid cabinet, with ebonized finish and wood inlay detailing, measuring approx. 16"D x 31"W x 11"H, ca. 1840. The box is doweled to a removable platform and has dark metal decorative handles at either end for transporting. It has two diamond-shaped bone escutcheons, one cracked. The hinged lid reveals a glass panel with a leather pull covering the interior works and cylinders, with decorative metalwork and with several patents and other information stamped into the metal pieces. A shield-shaped lever reads "Jacot's Patented Safety Check Sept 22, 1886", and a metal plaque nearby reads "Concerta...Patented...April 10, 1883...September 22, 1885...December 6, 1887..." " 1887...Mai 8, 1888, with a shield shaped logo below dated 1816, and the numbers DRP 33516, 37261,43585, 43884 below. There is a book that accompanies the piece in which pretty chromolithograph cards can be inserted on which is hand-written the names of the songs. In a compartment at the left side of the works chamber are a small tin with an extra gear and a winding handle. There is also a locking drawer below the works that contains three other cylinders. Each cylinder is 11" long.
