542. A Pair of Carved Ivory Masks with Wooden Stands
A handsome pair of carved ivory masks, one of a man and the other of a woman, each wearing an ornately carved ceremonial headdress, and each with a fitted half-circle carved wooden stand on four small feet. The masks conform to the curve of the tusk and are finely carved, with accenting black pigments in the grooves. Overall each is approx. 8"H x 4"W x 2"D without the stand. There are holes originally drilled in each that once held other ornaments, now missing.

553. A Pair of Low Japanese Tansu Chests
A pair of low Japanese hardwood Tansu chests, each measuring 37"W x 12"D x 13"H, on squared legs with bracket details at the sides and a cloud-carved apron at the front, with five frieze drawers at the top front, carved with insects and with brass pulls; with two panel doors carved with flowers in vases opening to a central compartment, the doors with brass hardware. The hardwood is a rich ruddy brown color and has had some age wear and maintenance restorations.

554. An Antique Japanese Yarodansu Chest
An antique Japanese Yarodansu chest, (a chest in one piece) in two colors of wood finish, measuring 35-1/2"W x 15-5/8"D x 21-3/4"H, with darker finishes surrounding light more natural finished woods, displaying an attractive graining, with ornate incised brass hardware embellishments on the drawers and doors, and with the interiors of the drawers covered in a beige tone-on-tone oriental pattern paper. There are four frieze drawers at the top front above two panel doors covering an open compartment below. The top is more roughly finished than the front or sides, as this may have been part of a stacking pair at one time.

A lovely set of five framed hand painted fan leaves, each slightly different in size, with finely painted decorations in various Oriental motifs including landscape, birds, insects floral images, on scored paper fan fronts, some with calligraphy and red chop markings. Each leaf is framed with a cut to shape mat opening in cream color, in brown veneered wood frames and glazed with plexiglas; overall each frame measures approx. 14" x 26-1/4".
