A Japanese porcelain dish with a small foot and a flaring rim, approx. 8-1/2" in diameter, with calligraphy in iron red on the underside. This dish is said to be pre-Meiji, using the colors that were popular in China during the Ming period in Swatow provincial ware of the Fukien province. It is further said to be "Hichozan Shimpo - maker, Hizen, Saga Nagasaki, before 1868.

The interior is plain, the rim accented with gilt, and the sides decorated with the images of cranes standing in front of a spreading pine tree, with two bats in flight on the opposite side.

A vintage Chinese glazed ceramic centerpiece, with the main body in a boat shape attached to a pierced self three-legged base. The graceful form is further enhanced by relief and enameled decorations. The exterior is glazed in a matte finish grading from yellow to honey color, with foliate designs on each leg and rimmed in gilt. The upper portion is decorated with elaborate polychrome enameled foliage and blossoms and cast "handles" on either end. Gilt accents were also used to embellish the upper portion. The interior is clear glaze with small designs at either end. The underside is marked with calligraphic characters. Overall it measures approx. 12-1/4"H x 13-3/4" x 6".
