688. A Fine Ormolu Picture Framed Miniature Portrait of Anne de Bourbon


A fine ormolu picture frame with a miniature portrait of Anne de Bourbon under glass inside, with a stamped nameplate on the front, the frame overall measuring 4-1/2" x 3-7/8" plus the 1" top ornament. The relief of the frame is cast with an outer ribbon design, an inner anthemion leaf and sprig pattern and inner beading. There is a textured spandral with applied corner ornaments surrounding the oval portrait, 2-1/2" x 2", with an inner rim of classical foliate form. The frame has a hinged leg for standing and a ring for hanging. It is backed by a silk covered card held in place by four pins. Inside the portrait has a cream color kid leather backing on which the sitter's name is written in ink and the number 213. There is also a paper label in the form of a stamp that reads "Austria" in green. The portrait itself is beautifully rendered on either celluloid or ivory and is signed in red illegibly. (M.i..y..t)

An elegant standing ormolu picture frame, 6-3/4" square in shape plus a top ornament of a ribbon bow and floral sprigs, 1"H. The frame has a hinged leg at the back for standing and a ring for hanging. Inside the frame is an ivory silk mat embroidered with metallic threads and further embellished with tiny seed pearls and gold beads and turquoise cabachon beads. The pearls and turquoise beads may be made of glass. There is a gilt metal inner rim surrounding the picture opening in which is contained a color reproduction of a Madonna and Child painted by Murillo. The glass covers the picture and the matting to the outer frame.

A pretty ormolu standing picture frame with a color lithograph of a pretty lady and her dog inside under the glass. The frame is circular, approx. 4-3/4" in diameter, and has an inner panel covered in beige velvet with applied floral swags and flower basket ornaments, with an inner rim comprised of a row of faux seed pearls and a tooled metal rim. Surmounting the frame is a cast ornament of torches, ribbons and laurel leaves (+7/8"). The back has a hinged leg for standing and a bale for hanging, and is inset with fabric.

A French ormolu dresser box 5-1/2" x 4" x 4-1/4"H, standing on for cast foliate shaped legs, with one drawer with a ring pull below and a hinged lid on the top compartment. Inset in the lid is a hand painted portrait on ivory or celluliod of Marie Antoinette under a convex glass covering. Surrounding the portrait are applied ornaments including laurel branches, two winged cherubs holding flower wreaths and elaborate corner ornaments. The entire exterior surface is embellished in relief (except the underside). The interior surfaces are covered with silk. Underneath the silk of the lid is seen a kid leather backing on the miniature, with Marie Antoinette written in ink. (2-1/8" in diameter).

Two cast brass standing picture frames, each with prints of pretty ladies inside under glass. The first is an oval shape, stamped "B. Altman...New York...France" on the back, with a relief pattern on the front surmounted by a cast bow and flower shape at the top. It has a bale for hanging and a hinged leg on the back, and measures approx. 10-1/4" x 8-1/4" without the top ornament (+1-1/2"). The second is a rectangular frame with a rococo cast pattern on the outer rim and the inner lip, with applied cast decorative corners and top detail. This frame is stamped "France" on the hinged leg and has a bale for hanging. It measures 8" x 6-1/4" overall (+1-1/4" for the top ornament).

A pretty Delft porcelain container with a hinged lid, measuring approx. 3-5/8"W x 2-1/2"D x 1"H. The irregularly shaped white porcelain is hand decorated with cobalt blue, yellow and red glazes; the top depicting an oriental garden scene with two figures and the sides decorated with sprays of flowers. The underside is marked with a "D" in the underglaze. Each section is surrounded by a metal rim with a hinge at the back and a latch at the front.

A New Haven Clock Company table clock, in a pretty Art Nouveau design with a puto at one side standing on a swirling base that billows up to the clock face, surrounded by flowers. The finish of the spelter metal was originally gilt, now worn. The face of the clock is enameled in white with black Arabic numerals. Overall it measures approx. 7-3/4"H x 6"W x 3-1/2"D.

An Art Nouveau style table clock, approx. 10-2/4"H x 6"W x 4-1/2"D, with four amorphous feet at the base tapering up to a bouquet of roses that contain the circular works. The face is a cream color enamel with black Arabic numerals and a seconds dial below, behind a polished edge glass. No maker's name was found.
